Menuzen

Product Design

Menuzen is a web and mobile platform that enables restaurants to create and manage digital menus across multiple platforms—without needing design expertise. As the lead UI/UX designer, I owned the end-to-end product design process: defining user flows, producing wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes, and building a scalable Figma design system that underpinned the entire product. My work spanned core product features such as menu templates, item management, onboarding, subscription flow, and the full admin dashboard, along with supporting brand and marketing initiatives.

Problem

Restaurants were struggling to create digital menus that were both visually appealing and easy to maintain. Existing tools were either too complex (requiring design knowledge or manual formatting) or too limited (producing generic, inflexible menus).
Menuzen needed:

  • A simple, intuitive editing experience for non-technical users
  • Flexible design options that still ensured visual consistency
  • A smooth onboarding and setup flow that reduced friction for busy restaurant owners
  • A scalable design system to support rapid product expansion
  • Polished marketing assets to help communicate the value proposition and drive adoption

The challenge was to create a platform that felt powerful yet effortless—with enough creative freedom for users, without overwhelming them.

Solution

I led the end-to-end product design, creating a cohesive ecosystem that balanced usability with visual control:

  • UX Foundations: Defined user journeys, low-fidelity wireframes, and flow architecture that prioritised clarity and efficiency.
  • Responsive Menu Designer: Designed the core menu editor with granular design settings, multiple pricing formats, and responsive layout logic. Created guardrails and smart defaults so users could customise menus without breaking the design.
  • CMS Item Manager: Built the CMS item manager supporting categories, variants, modifiers, and structured menu data.
  • Extended Product Suite: Designed an interactive kiosk menu designer (piloted by Subway Australia) and a digital menu board tool.
  • Design System: Created a robust, scalable Figma library with components, tokens, and documentation—supporting rapid iteration and consistent product growth.
  • Onboarding & Monetisation: Designed onboarding, subscription, and account flows that improved activation and conversion.
  • Marketing Support: Delivered animated interface promos, social ads, email campaigns, and pitch decks to support the brand and acquisition strategy.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Worked closely with the product manager and a Vietnam-based dev team, iterating continuously based on user feedback and technical constraints.

This holistic design approach helped Menuzen mature into a polished, intuitive platform.
