Created as part of a university project, this illustrated children’s book introduces young readers to African wildlife through counting. Inspired by a trip to Kenya, my goal was to design a book that felt tactile and immersive — something that captured the warmth, texture and movement of the savannah.
Each spread was hand-illustrated and paired with custom typography, allowing the text to become part of the artwork instead of sitting on top of it. I developed a visual rhythm across the book: from initial concept sketches, to character exploration, page layout and final print production. The tone balances playfulness with a subtle conservation message, encouraging curiosity about wildlife while teaching basic numeracy.
The final book prototype became a cohesive visual narrative — blending illustration, storytelling and editorial design into a single experience. It showcases my ability to take an open brief and shape it into an engaging, well-resolved product with a clear emotional point of view.
